Why we built this
Every 3D printing slicer reports material usage in grams, but spools are sold by weight and priced per kilogram. Converting between the two — accounting for material density, filament diameter, and spool cost — requires math that most makers do on a napkin or in a spreadsheet. We built TheFilamentCalc to make that instant.
How it works
The calculator uses the volumetric density of each polymer (PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU) and the cross-sectional geometry of 1.75mm filament to compute exact length from weight. All arithmetic runs client-side in vanilla JavaScript — no frameworks, no APIs.
